California Pottery: Merced's Forgotten Art is a new exhibit at the Courthouse Museum that showcases Neil Morse's collection of artifacts from the California Pottery Company. Built in 1921, the company manufactured a variety of clay products including vases, crocks, garden pottery, and roofing tiles for home construction in Merced. It was considered one of the top five industries in town; however, the Merced plant did not escape the fate of the Great Depression and was closed in 1929. This exhibit about the successful but short history of the plant will run through October 1.
